Smith, Judith Ann "Judy" Judith Ann "Judy" Smith, 75, passed away on July 3, 2017. Judy was a native to Arizona, born on May 15, 1942. She attended Creighton GS, Phoenix Union HS, and graduated from ASU where she met her husband of 52 years, Richard "Dick" Smith. Judy was a well know local artist with a passion for creativity. She taught Art in public schools before turning to potting full-time with her own business, Mud-Dauber Ceramics; She continued to visit schools as an Artist-in-Residence and she belonged to Desert Weavers and Spinners & Clay Club. Judy was a founding member of Lacey Ladies, a lace making guild that hosted a national convention, and placed winning entries in the AZ State Fair every year. She was a doll maker working mostly in porcelain and a builder of jointed bears, as well as a basket maker using local materials that she would gather. Judy was an accomplished jewelry maker who excelled in beadwork. She crocheted easily and loved the challenge of knitting; she even started a craft friends group where she freely shared her many talents and encouraged friendships. Judy loved driving her 1927 Model T Ford Coupe to various car shows. She also loved to garden, loved dogs, and cared for many. Judy was preceded in death by her birth parents Naomi and Wayne Fernyhough, and step-mother Margaret Fernyhough. She is survived by her devoted husband Dick; sisters Shirley Manoz (Felix) and Lynn Atkinson (Bill); niece Mitzi Dooley (Tom); nephews Tom and Ted Atkinson; grandnephew Dustin Dooley and grandniece Jessica Brock (Keith). A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, July 15, 2017 at 3:00pm at Resthaven / Carr-Tenney Mortuary & Memorial Gardens, 4310 E Southern Ave, Phoenix, AZ (602) 437-0436.
