Judith R. Cox, 87, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2017 at Middlesex Hospital. She was born on May 27, 1930 in New Haven, CT, the eldest of three sisters to Frank and Olive Reed. She is survived by son Bruce Hugh Cox and daughter-in-law Cheryl of Vermont, son Douglas David Cox and daughter-in-law Barbara of Colorado, and son Jeffrey Allen Cox of Utah. Her beloved grandchildren are Jason (partner Shay), Christopher (wife Holly), Tyler (partner Stephanie), and Heather (husband Aaron); and great grandchild Emilee. Also, family friends James and Arleen Stannard of Rocky Hill, CT whose children and grandchildren brought Judy and her late husband Hugh much pleasure. Her career started at Seamless Rubber in New Haven, CT. It was during her employment at Seamless Rubber that she met her future husband Hugh. She was the long time children's librarian at the Durham Public Library. She attended courses in library science at Southern Connecticut State College. In her retirement years Judy was an active member of the community including serving as a docent at the Wadsworth Mansion in Middletown, a volunteer at the Goodspeed Opera House, and a volunteer in various capacities at the Durham Fair. She was active in several local churches including Notre Dame in Durham and St. Peter's in Higganum. She had a life-long interest in antiques and could always be counted on to help a friend. She and her late husband Hugh established scholarships at UConn and Middlesex Community College. A funeral Mass will be held at Notre Dame Church, Main St. in Durham on July 21, 2017 at 11:00 am. Interment at the Mica Hill Cemetery in Durham will follow. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to the children's room at the Durham Public Library or Middlesex Hospital Hospice & Palliative Care. Biega Funeral Home has care of the arrangements.
