DERBY-Mattley, Julia Loving wife, mother, gramma and "GeGe," was born on January 15, 1917 in Leeds, IA, the oldest child of LeRoy and Mary Gillette. She passed peacefully with grace and dignity on August 29, 2016, in Derby, KS. She is survived by one son, Miles Mattley (Mary) of Derby, KS; three grandchildren, Melanie Fleming of Wichita, Tony Mattley (Theresa) of Santa Clarita, CA, and Matthew Mattley (Courtney) of Valencia, CA; two great-grandchildren, Danyelle Mattley of Santa Clarita, CA, and Hannah Fleming of Wichita; one brother, John Gillette (Virginia) of LaVerne, CA; and two sisters-in-law, Lora Gillette of Escondido, CA and Ruth Gillette of Alma, NE. She was preceeded in death by her husband, T.S. Mattley; one son, Steven Mattley; three brothers, Charles, Sam, and Gene Gillette; and one sister, Mary Jane Postlethwaite. Julia lived in the Seattle-Tacoma area from 1965-2001 when she returned to her native midwest, living at Georgetown in Wichita for 13 years and at Westview in Derby for 2 years. She graduated from Kearney State (NE) Teachers College. She was a career teacher and businesswoman, having taught in public schools and at the Wichita Business College. In her later years, she owned a stenographic service in Tacoma, WA. Julia was a voracious reader, enjoyed writing and sharing poetry, loved working "difficult" puzzles, and watching CNN for daily political news. She loved traveling in Europe and Hawaii and cruising to Alaska, the Panama Canal, Russia, and Scandanavia. Her greatest pleasure was to watch and enjoy her family. She will be greatly missed.
