Julie Flynn, 48, of Oxnard, CA passed away on July 28th, 2015, after a tenacious ten-month fight against glioblastoma brain cancer.
Julie was born in Fullerton, CA, on December 4, 1966, one of nine children born to Joe and Jane Coffman. She graduated from St. Bonaventure High School in Ventura and received her BA in sociology from Cal State University Channel Islands. She was married to Tim Flynn, with whom she had three beautiful daughters, Megan (25), Maeve (18), and Mairead (16).
Julie prided herself on being a homemaker and built her life around her family. She had many goals in life and enjoyed crafts, gardening, sewing, traveling, and spending time outdoors. Being a mother, however, took priority over all. Julie loved her girls more than anything and would have given them the world if she could.
She was an absolute joy to be around. Most people remember her beautiful, enduring smile; others remember her goofy, fun personality and her unique quick wit. Her presence alone was enough to make someone want to be a better person and appreciate every moment of life. Julie was a wonderful wife and a fantastic mother.
Even as the last ten months of Julie’s life were an extremely tough uphill battle, she always found a way to keep a smile on her face. Toward the end of her life, she took pleasure in simple things: a good home-cooked meal, listening to music, and watching her girls gardening. Julie saw her cancer as a blessing and used it to teach her family and friends about selflessness, patience, and courage. Julie is a true inspiration for many, and her courageous spirit will carry on through her family and the many people she touched throughout her life. Her loss on earth is heaven’s gain and her spirit is everlasting. Her family now has a beautiful guardian angel watching over them.
Julie is survived by her husband and three daughters, her mother Jane, and her eight siblings Joe, Steve,Tom, Mary, Ann, Catherine, Phillip and John.
The Flynn family is grateful to the many family and friends who assisted in caring for Julie and supporting the family after the diagnosis, and especially the doctors, nurses and staff at USC Keck and Norris Cancer Center, St. John’s Hospital and Glenwood Skilled Care Nursing Facility in Oxnard.
Julie has been entrusted to the care of the family owned and operated Reardon Funeral Home 511 North A St. Oxnard. www.reardonfh.com
