Kaku "K" AkagiMay 29, 1931 - December 28, 2014Kaku "K" Akagi, 83, passed away on 12/28/14 at a Meridian Hospital.He was born on May 29th, 1931 in Crowley, Colorado to Ihachi and Mika (Koomoto) Akagi. "K" grew up in Crowley, CO where he attend the local schools and graduated from Crowley High School in 1949. He attended Colorado A&M (CSU) for one year. In 1951 he was drafted into the US. Army and served for 3 years during the Korean War. He received the Korea War and United Nations Service medals. He was honorably discharged as a corporal. After his service he moved to Kansas with his brothers to farm. He continued to farm until the mid-1980's at which time he moved to Idaho and began another career in the agricultural industry and was respected and admired by his peers. He retired in 2013. He married Shirley Palmer in 1987 in Las Vegas. They were happily married for 27 years. "K" loved to travel, was an avid golfer and a voracious reader. He also followed the Boise State "Broncos" and College of Idaho "Yotes"."K" was preceded in death by his father Ihachi, mother Mika, brother Katashi (Kat), Shigeru (Shig), Genzo and a sister Ayu. "K" is survived by his wife, Shirley, Caldwell, ID, sons: Kay, Longview, WA, Pat, St. Helens, OR, sisters: Asano Quarne, Crowley, CO, Sue Nagamoto, Boulder, CO. Step children: Michelle, Denver, CO, Mike, West, TX, Mark, Hugoton, KS. "K" also had many nieces, nephews and several grandchildren.A celebration of life will be held at Flahiff Funeral Chapel, 624 Cleveland Blvd, Caldwell, ID 83605 at 2:00 pm on Saturday January 3rd, 2015.In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to either the College of Idaho or Boise State athletic departments in his name.
