Niece and nephews include Tom Daugherty, Jason Kleiss, Evan Kleiss, and Jennifer Baker-Boothman. Karen is preceded in death by her mother and father Thomas & Olga Daugherty along with her nephew Matthew Baker.

Karen's growing up years were spent in Japan, Texas and California. She studied classical music in Okinawa, Japan and frequently enjoyed sitting at the piano and organ. As a young child she told her mother that she enjoyed helping people and wanted to become a nurse.

Karen attended Miami Palmetto High School and graduated in 1966. She went on to seek degrees at multiple universities to continue her studies in nursing, including Miami Dade Community College 1968 & 71; University of Southern Florida 1979 along with getting an MSN at IUPUI 1989. After completing her education, she worked for various hospitals around Florida and Indiana. Her last place of work was Edgewater Pointe Estates as a medical/surgical nurse until she went missing.

Karen was known for her kind heart, generous spirit, and unwavering dedication to helping others. One of her many sterling qualities and most outstanding was her thoughtfulness, she was someone who thinks up of nice things to do for others and would do them. She was one of those rare people who shines not to dazzle, but to bring light to darkness.

Karen always carried herself with dignity and grace, with the philosophy that you could never fail in anything as long as you kept trying. She had a contagious smile that could brighten anyone's day and a compassionate nature that made her beloved by all who knew her.

Karen was a loving and devoted mother to her daughter Christina, and she had a multitude of exciting activities planned for her daughter on her days off from work together. She was also a devoted sister, aunt and daughter herself who always put her family first. Karen's passions in life were her family, piano/music, writing, sailing, traveling, and cooking. She had a great sense of humor and seemed to always find the sunshine of every rainy day.

Karen will be greatly missed for her sense of humor and her kindness to all. She will live in our hearts forever with countless, beautiful, and gracious memories.
