Berger, Sister Karen AnneSister Karen Anne Berger, age 98, a member of the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity, died Wednesday morning, August 30, 2017 at Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc.The former Catherine Cecelia Berger was born on November 22, 1918 in Maribel, Wisconsin, daughter of the late Joseph and Anna (Spurney) Berger. She entered the Convent in 1942 and professed her vows in 1945. Sister Karen Anne earned a Nursing degree at Holy Family School of Nursing, Manitowoc, Wisconsin; a B.S.N. from Mercy College, Detroit, Michigan and M.S.N. from DePaul University, Chicago, Illinois. Sister Karen Anne served as a Staff nurse at Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc, St. Paul Home, Kaukauna, both of Wisconsin; Good Samaritan Hospital, Zanesville, Ohio; St. Francis Memorial Hospital and St. Joseph Home, West Point, Nebraska; and was an instructor at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc; St. Francis Memorial Hospital, West Point, Nebraska; and Good Samaritan Hospital, Zanesville, Ohio. She also served as Assistant Director of nurses/Supervisor at Good Samaritan School of Nursing, Zanesville, Ohio and Holy Family School of Nursing, Manitowoc, Wisconsin. After retiring from active ministry, she performed various tasks at Holy Family Convent and Sacred Heart Parish, Manitowoc, Wisconsin as well as San Damiano Convent, Slinger, Wisconsin. Since 2016 she had been a resident of St. Rita Health Center. She is a member of the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity.Survivors include the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents: Joseph and Anna (Spurney) Berger; four brothers and three sisters-in-law: Charles, Joseph (Constance Gennis), Edward (Martha Gretz), Victor (Dolores Wanek); and four sisters and four brothers-in-law: Mary (Joseph Dvorachek) (Frank Savatch), Helen (Louis) Schultz, Sister Karlene, and Viola (Charles) Kvitek.Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 2, 2017 at Holy Family Convent Chapel, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Placid Stroik, O.F.M. with burial at Holy Family Convent Cemetery, Manitowoc.The family will greet relatives and friends at Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday, September 1, 2017. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. at Holy Family Convent Chapel. Visitation will continue Saturday morning from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
