Karen Reynolds McCallSeptember 8, 1944 - November 26, 2014Our beloved Karen Reynolds McCall, age 70, of Pocatello passed away on November 26, 2014, at her home. She was born on September 8, 1944 in Twin Falls, Idaho to Grant and Irene Reynolds. She attended school in Jerome where she graduated in 1962. She, along with her twin sister Sharon Reynolds, attended Phillips University in Oklahoma. She proceeded on to receive her Bachelors and Masters degree from Idaho State University. Karen was a devoted and gifted teacher for twenty-two years, both in special education and regular classroom. She loved teaching and felt very blessed to work with young people and their families. Her love of children was very evident and she made a significant impact on all of their lives. Karen made a difference in the community through her devotion to the importance of education. She was a local and state president for the honorary sorority for teachers, Alpha Delta Kappa. She served on committees of the Pocatello Education Association as well as the Idaho Education Association. She was a member of the Professional Standards Commission under the State Board of Education. Karen helped start the Experienced Based Career Education program in School District #25, and organized the first local Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration that continues to this day. She cherished her colleges and friends she made along the way. Karen was an active member of the First United Methodist Church. In addition to serving on numerous projects, Karen cofounded the local Feeding the 5000 Program which provides goods to the Idaho Food Bank. Her heart felt mission was to support and encourage others with her phone calls, cards, letters and prayers. She is survived by her devoted husband of 49 years, Marvin, of Pocatello; her mother Irene Sumens of Murray, Utah, her twin sister Sharon Reynolds of Pocatello, her younger twin sisters; Billie Velasco of Alamogordo, New Mexico and Bobbie (Joe) Halverson of Sandy, Utah. Along with her two daughters; Kim (Jessie) Smith of Pocatello, and Jennie McCall of Portland Oregon, and her grandchildren; Kessie (Hank and Henry) Gummersall, Kaitlyn (Kamron) Day, Kyllie (Cody) Prather, Kolby and Kade Smith and Shaiden Bloomingkemper. She was preceded in death by her father Grant Reynolds, and her older sister Nancy Horne. The family will receive friends the evening of Tuesday December 2nd from 6 to 8pm at the First United Methodist Church, 200 N. 15th Ave, Pocatello, Idaho 83205. They invite you to join them in a celebration of Karen's life on Wednesday December 3rd at 11am, which will also be held at the First United Methodist Church. Memorials in her honor will be given to the Youth Camp Fund of the United Methodist Church.
