Katherine V. WerveKatherine V. Werve, 95, of Kenosha passed away on Sunday, April 27, 2014, at St. Josephs Home with her loving family by her side. Kathy was born on Aug. 26, 1918. on the prairies of Ashton, S.D. to Carl and Katie (Briggs) Meyer. After graduating from Holmen High School in 1936, she moved to Madison, Wis., and received training at the vocational school learning to run the drill press and lathe. After school she moved to Milwaukee where she worked at Chain Belt Company as an inspector for aircraft parts. On June 9, 1944, she married Donald E. Werve Sr. in Lincoln, Neb. The couple moved to Kenosha in November of 1945 where she was a loving mother to her five children. She was a Sunday school teacher, room mother, scout leader and active band parent. Kathy was also active with Busy Bees helping to make over 250 quilts for Lutheran World Relief and knitted over 200 pairs of mittens. She was also the oldest active bowler in her church league. Hobbies included gardening and crafts and she loved playing cards and other games with her family. Remembering her youth during the depression, she never failed to give generously of her time and resources to those in need, firmly believing it was her turn to give back.She was preceded in death by, her husband, Donald; her parents; her sister, Gwen Basthemer and four brothers, Edward, Charles, Vern and George Meyer.Kathy is survived by, five children, David (Beth) Werve of Atlanta, Ga., Carl (Gina) Werve of The Villages, Fla., Karen Leggin of Kenosha, Tim (Nancy) Werve of Geneva, Ill., and Katie (Tom) Wartick of Milwaukee; 14 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; her brother, Harley (Helen) Meyer of West Salem as well as nieces, nephews and friends.Funeral services for Kathy will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 2, 2014, at First Presbyterian Church (1803 - 83rd Street) with burial to follow at Sunset Ridge Memorial Park. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Hansen-Lendman Funeral Home and on Friday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
