Katheryn Salazar-Perea, 54, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015, surrounded by her loving family at her home in San Ignacio.She was a lifelong resident of San Ignacio and was born on May 21, 1960, to the late Eutimio Salazar and Beneranda Maria Salazar.Katheryn was united in marriage at Our Lady of Sorrows Church to Michael Perea. They were happily married and together for 36 years. Katheryn was a beloved elementary school counselor with the West Las Vegas School District for many years until her retirement in 2012. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, neighbor and friend to many.Katheryn will be remembered as a generous, giving, and caring woman who touched many lives not only in her professional capacity but also in her personal life. She had strong family values and instilled respect and caring in all who knew her. She enjoyed spending time with family, friends, and especially her grandson whom she referred to as her "Littol Guy." Katheryn was also known to be very giving of herself. She loved the outdoors and would always say that she lived in "God's country." This is where she enjoyed taking long walks and taking pictures. She also loved sitting on her porch, drawing and painting the beautiful outdoor scenery. Katheryn was an avid animal lover and cared generously for them.She was preceded in death by her parents, Eutimio and Beneranda Salazar; in-laws, Melecio and Tillie Perea; and brother-in-law, Paul Perea.She is survived by her husband, Michael Perea of San Ignacio; daughters, Crystaline Perea and significant other, Brodie Bowie, of Las Vegas, PaulyEtte Perea and significant other, Christian Casaus, and grandson, Elijah Casaus of Las Vegas; son, Melecio Perea of San Ignacio; and brothers and sisters, Luis Salazar and wife, Lucy, of Rociada, Arturo Salazar and wife, Mary Louise, of San Ignacio, Pauline Marquez and husband, Alex, of Española, Leroy Salazar of Livermore, Calif., Clarence Salazar and wife, Dolores, Joseph Salazar and wife, Liz, all of San Ignacio; brother-in-laws, John Perea and wife, Cora, Melecio Perea and wife, Amy, Eddie Perea and wife, Marcella, Robert Perea; sister-in-laws, Mary Jean Lujan and husband, Dennis, Rose Marie Bustamante, Rose Ann Pino, Frances Martinez and husband, Jeff; numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, neighbors, other relatives and many friends.Rosary services will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Las Vegas. Funeral services will be conducted at 9 a.m. on Friday at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Las Vegas with Father Douglas Mitchell as celebrant.
