Kathleen Anderson Kathleen "Kay" Anderson, 96, of Tacoma, WA, passed away peacefully on February 25, 2017 in Federal Way, WA. A lifelong resident of Tacoma, Kay was born on April 5, 1920. She married Paul O. Anderson, a long-time editor of the Tacoma News Tribune, in 1943, and he preceded her in death in 2003. She was a proud graduate of Stadium High School and Knapp's Business College. Kay was passionate about her chosen career as an award-winning real estate broker for 30+ years with George Poe Co. and Swanson McGoldrick Co., and a consummate professional. It gave her such joy to help her clients with their real estate needs, and she was able to make many of them into lifelong friends. Some of the various and distinguished awards she earned included Woman of the Year for the Washington State Women's Council of Realtors, Director of the Pierce County Board of Realtors, Realtor of the Year, Citizenship Award for the American Association of Business Women, Community Service Award from the Tacoma-Pierce County Board of Realtors, Regional Director and President of WCR and Vice President of CRS and countless others. Kay was also a very active and passionate philanthropist, volunteer, and community service advocate. She was a member of many charitable organizations, including Treasurer of the Tacoma/Pierce County United Way Board. She was one of the founders and organizers of the "Christmas House" in Tacoma, a non-denominational group that supported families during the holidays. Kay was a Girl Scout and Brownie leader, and took charge of Pierce County Girl Scout Camps during her leadership tenure. She was also an artist and long-time member of the Pacific Gallery Artists. She loved watercolors, and many of her personal Christmas cards showcased her talent on the cover. Kay was a skier, an equestrian, an avid gardener and nature lover, a lifelong member of the Christian Science Church, and the best "Grandma Kay" to so many. She is survived by her sister Patricia Meadowcroft; daughters Sandy Gordon (Joe Gordon Jr.) and Gini Anderson; grandson Austin Anderson (Brandwyn Pierpoint); and great-grandson Cary Anderson. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, March 11th, 2017, at 1pm in the Rose Garden Chapel at Mountain View Funeral Home in Lakewood, WA, with a reception to follow.
