Kathleen Ann DunnMarch 20, 1943 - January 28, 2017Kathleen Ann Dunn, 73, of Blackfoot, Idaho passed away at her home in Blackfoot on January 28, 2017 from complications of Alzheimer's. Kathy was born on March 20, 1943 in Pocatello, Idaho. She was born to James E. Draper and Geneva J. Barnett Draper. Kathy graduated from Pocatello High School in 1961 where she excelled in debate, qualifying for Nationals in Pittsburg, PA. That same year, Kathy was voted Miss Congeniality in the Miss Pocatello Pageant. Of special note, Kathy won the swimsuit portion of the pageant, catching the eye of her future husband, Ralph D. Dunn, of Pocatello, Idaho. They were married on August 31, 1961 and later sealed in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Kathy and Ralph are the parents of 5 children; Corwin, Kirk, Joe, Camille and Richard. Kathy was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served faithfully in several callings. Some included: Primary President, Relief Society Counselor, Cub Scout leader, and her favorite calling in the Young Women's program as a teacher. At the age of 52, Kathy asked herself the question, "if not now, when?" and enrolled in Professional Clown School at the University of Wisconsin, Lacrosse. After graduation, Kathy presented a plan to the District Manager and was hired by Walmart to work as Sunbeam the Clown for the region including Idaho, Utah and Oregon. As Sunbeam, Kathy enjoyed entertaining at birthday parties and many other celebrations for her grandchildren. In earlier years she owned and operated Kathy's Personal Improvement Center. At the center she taught etiquette, poise, grooming and dress. The spectrum of students included, wives of state legislators and continued with numerous Junior Miss Contestants. Kathy loved life and was a true friend to all who knew her. Kathy always found a way to have fun in even the toughest of situations. She was known to fly kites with the group she founded, The Whirly-gig Gang. She could also be found around town, lunching with friends. Kathy enjoyed reading, book collecting, antiquing, and yard work. She was also a prolific connoisseur of McDonald's Coke. But, of all her hobbies and activities, that of being mother and wife where cherished above all. Kathy's greatest joy was seeing the success and happiness of her children. Kathy is survived by her husband, Ralph, and their children, Corwin (Lezley) Dunn, of Blackfoot, Idaho; Kirk (Lyndell) Dunn, of Denver, Colorado, Joe (Deborah) Dunn, of Goodyear, Arizona; Camille (Peter) Neibert, of Cedar Falls, Iowa; and Rich (Kambrel) Dunn, of Blackfoot, Idaho. Sisters: Norma Curzon, Pam Hodges and Jerry Conlin. Kathy and Ralph have 20 grandchildren. Kathy is proceeded in death by her parents, James and Geneva Draper, and infant brother, Larry Dee Draper.The children would like to publicly thank their loving father who cared for Kathy's every need, thus allowing her to stay in her home, which she loved. A viewing will be held on Thursday February 2, 2017, at Hawker Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the Blackfoot 6th Ward LDS building located at 660 Teton Road in Blackfoot, Idaho, on Friday February 3, 2017 at 11:00 a.m., with a viewing beginning 1 hour prior to the service, starting at 10:00am at the church building.
