Kathleen Ellett, 85, of Annapolis, Maryland, passed on January 01, 2023. Kathleen was born on May 21, 1937 in Pawhuska, OK. She graduated from Hobbs High School in Hobbs, NM and graduated from New Mexico State with a B.S. in Biology. She also earned a Masters of Science in microbiology at UC Berkeley. She began her career as a research scientist at the Naval Laboratoy in San Francisco, CA where she met her husband of 47 years William H. Ellett. During the 1970's, she was an activist for women's rights and the environment within her volunteerism in the Maryland League of Woman's voters. Her passion for the Chesapeake Bay led her to a career to help with efforts to clean the bay. She first began her environmental career at the Alliance for the Bay as program coordinator of a volunteer water quality program. She later worked for the Maryland Department of Natural Reasources where she continued to be a program manager for several different environmental initiatives regarding the health of the Bay. Upon retirement, she volunteered at Jug Bay Wetlands Santuary for over 10 years. Throughout her life she enjoyed traveling the world devoted to learning about archaeology and different cultures. She also enjoyed sailing on the bay she loved. She is servived by her daughter, Irenee Ellett McElwee and husband Joe, grand daughters, Erin McElwee-Wenz, Shannon and Bridget McElwee She is also loved by her step-son Frederick C. Ellett in Chino, California.
