Kathleen Mary Reid, 79, of Fort Valley, Georgia, passed away on October 14, 2024. Born on May 5, 1945, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Kathy was the eldest of two children. As a teenager, she moved to Tuscan, Arizona with her family where she graduated from Katalina High School with high honors. That same year, she was introduced to the love of her life, Johnie Reid who was serving in the Air Force. The couple married in 1964, and eventually moved to Georgia. Kathy embraced the south and fell in love with her husband’s home state. She attended Macon Junior College where she studied accounting. Her love of numbers and impeccable skills mom record keeping sent her on to a successful career as a bookkeeper.
Kathy was devoted to her family and often recalled becoming a mother to son, William, her greatest achievement. She was “the unquestionable family matriarch and instilled a tradition of toughness, accountability, faith and family, with a respectful rigor of command.
Kathy was an avid quilter and enjoyed many years of pursuing her passion. She belonged to many sewing groups over the years and most recently, Friendship Quilters. She used her talents to spread love to others and help those in need. One of her greatest joys was volunteering for The Project Linus. This was very dear to her heart and gave her great pride to be apart of. She also loved to write to nursing home residents, something she started doing with her daughter-in-law, Kate. She could always catch her at her desk filling out a card each week to send. Kathy was always thinking of others and how to make someone smile. After Christmas every year, she starts her new list to work on for the following year, a tradition she has done since the 1970s.
Kathy’s legacy of love and generosity will continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched.
She leaves behind her husband of 60 years, Johnie Reid of Fort Valley, Georgia., son William and daughter in law Kate of Oxford, Mississippi, grandchildren, Savannah and JT Reid of Jerome, Michigan and a brother Richard Lynch of Las Vegas, Nevada. She is predeceased by her parents, Richard and Agnes Lynch.
A private memorial with family is planned at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The Project Linus in Kathy’s honor. May she rest in eternal peace.
