Kathryn A. "Kay" BlackwellKathryn A. "Kay" Blackwell, 80 of Lafayette passed away on April 4, 2017 at Franciscan St. Elizabeth East.Kathryn was born on July 7, 1936 in East Chicago, IN to Joseph and Catherine Roderick Redding. Kay graduated from George Rogers Clark High School in Hammond with the class of 1954. She then went on to receive her BA in Interior Design in 1958 from Purdue University and later received her Master's in Education from Purdue University.On November 15, 1968 she married David H. Blackwell in Lafayette.Mrs. Blackwell retired as a teacher for the Lafayette School Corporation. Prior to that she taught for the Tippecanoe School Corporation and she got her start working for J.M. Bloom as a Interior Designer.Kay was a member of the Chi-Omega Alumni, the ISTA, and NEA. Kay loved to sew, quilt, and knit. She was known for the bears she sewed, some of which were on display for the Teddy Bear's 100th Anniversary at the Indiana State Museum. She also enjoyed baking and won several Blue Ribbons for baking and sewing in both the county and state fair.Surviving with her husband, David are her children, Mark D. Blackwell of Lafayette, Catherine S. (Charles) Wyant of Lafayette, and Scott E. (Shelia) Blackwell of Vicksburg, MI, and her sister, Audrey J. Redding of Phoenix, AZ. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Samuel, Joshua, Dylan, Logan, Brandon, Paige, Sara, Jennifer, and Joshua, and 9 great-grandchildren.She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Herbert "Skip" Redding.Services are private.
