Kathryn Elizabeth (Glenn) Wallace, 90, peacefully passed away on Friday, July 3, 2009 at Kittitas Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born on April 8, 1919 to parents Merton and Iva (Perkins) Glenn in Nashua, Iowa. Her family moved to the Yakima Valley when she was a baby, eventually settling in Selah where she graduated from high school in 1936. Kathryn married Frank Wallace on April 29, 1938. They began their 57 years together farming and milking cows in the Yakima Valley before moving to Ellensburg in December 1949. Kathryn was a city girl who adapted to farm and ranch life quickly, whether it was milking cows, baling hay, driving truck, calving cows, or most importantly-- putting great food on the table. While raising her three children, Kathryn worked part-time at Mills' Saddle & Togs. When the kids were older, she worked full time at Central Washington University in Food Services from which she retired. After retirement, she helped at the food counter at the Ellensburg Livestock Exchange where she had great opportunities to laugh and visit with friends old and new. Kathryn was a member of Rodeo Valley Riders, Jolly Neighbors, Golden Girls, and Kittitas County Cattlewomen. One of her greatest honors was being named the Kittitas County Cattlewoman of the Year in 2002. The Ellensburg Rodeo was one of Kathryn's favorite events. She and Frank would park their motor home at the grounds for four or five days. It was open for volunteers or anyone who wanted to come by for beverages or some good grubb. Kathryn was a good wife, a great mom, and a proud grandma and great:-grandma. Even though she was very busy, Kathryn always made time for her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed watching them in school plays, athletics, rodeo and other activities. Kathryn had a kind heart and always wanted to help others. "Mom" will be dearly missed by her surviving children: Jack (Monica) Wallace, Betty (Dan) Hull, Steve (Debbie) Wallace. She was "Grandma" to: Shannon Hull, Shane Hull, Julie (Jon) Blackmore, Ehrin Wallace, Jackie (Brian) Fenz, Michele (Myles) Femrite, Lindsey (Ryan) Clark, Ty (Jamie) Wallace; and "Great Grandma" to: Beau, Ben, JT, Emmett, Gunner, Kayliana, Jalina, Cade, Cort, Coy, and Blayce. Kathryn was preceded in death by her loving husband Frank (1995); her parents; four brothers Stuart, Ivan, John, and Stanley Glenn; and close sister Mary Jean Williams. A memorial get-together will be held Sunday, July 12, from 11 am to 2pm at the Ellensburg Moose Lodge, 206 North Main. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial donations to Ellensburg Rodeo Hall of Fame at 508 North Main, Ellensburg, WA 98926.
