Katie Beatrice Lamar- MonroeKatie Beatrice LaMar-Monroe, passed away on Thursday, August 17, 2017 at Pennsylvania Hospital. She was born on September 23, 1943 in New Brunswick, New Jersey. She was the second of four children born to the late Vernon D. and Rosa Bell LaMar of Somerset, NJ. At an early age, she gave her life to Christ by regularly attending Sunday school, singing in the choir, serving on the Ebenezer Baptist Youth Services Committee, with scholastic achievement focus.Katie had a very filling and diverse career. She started her education in the public schools of Franklin Township, NJ. Katie graduated from Bound Brook High School in 1962, receiving multiple scholarships and awards. In 1966, she received her B.A. degree in General Education from Newark State College (Kean University), and M.A, degree in Special Education and Administration from Rider University. As an educator, her career began in New Brunswick public schools in New Brunswick, NJ; and as a reading instructor in Heidelberg and Zweibruken American High Schools in Germany. Upon returning to the states, her experiences continued as adjunct faculty professor at Kean University and Raritan Valley Community College.She served as resource to NJ State and federal programs and medical facilities in securing grants that supplemented education and programs for special education. Katie served at Kean College Evaluations Center Child Study.Katie also served as Interim Superintendent of Roselle NJ Public Schools, and as Director of Special Services, Administrator for the Alternative High School, and County Supervisor of Child Study, New Jersey Dept. of Education, Somerset and Hunterdon County Offices.In addition to her commitment to school age children and their families, she was very active in civic and educational organizations and served in leadership positions. Katie is survived by her spouse Henry F. Monroe of Upper Chichester, PA; her daughter Shaune M. Gibson of Upper Chichester, PA; one brother Vernon R. LaMar of Charlotte, NC; two sisters Brenda W. Brown of Willingboro, NJ; Marcell R. Glickman of Los Angeles, CA; and a host of other family members and friends. Funeral Service will be held at 12 noon, Friday, September 1, 2017, at First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens, 771 Somerset St., Somerset, NJ. Viewing is from 11am, until the time of service, at church. Arrangements are by Anderson Funeral Service, New Brunswick.
