Kay BottenfieldSolon, Iowa formerly of West Des MoinesKay Bottenfield, 91, passed away Tuesday, November 22, 2016 in Solon, IA where she had lived the past five years. Funeral services will be held 11:30 a.m. Saturday at McLaren's Chapel with burial at Resthaven Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 10:30 a.m. until service time Saturday at McLaren's.Kay was born on September 1, 1925 in Ottumwa, IA to Monte and Elva (Blattner) Moorehead, the oldest of three children. She graduated from Ottumwa High School and took business courses in Des Moines. Kay married James Bottenfield on August 3, 1945 in Des Moines, IA. She worked at Preferred Risk Insurance Co. in West Des Moines for many years. She was active in various church groups at West Des Moines Methodist Church where she was a member. Kay enjoyed gardening, creating flower arrangements, making crafts, cross stitching, reading, directing and singing in various choirs, and socializing with others.She is survived by her three children, Karol (Tom) Mauss of Gig Harbor, WA, Darcy Miller of Solon, IA and James (Deanne) Bottenfield of Urbandale, IA; seven grandchildren, Shelley (Jonathan) Sprouffske, Michael (Kristine) Mauss, Tiffany (Travis) Dooley, Tara (Oliver) Miller, Jessica (James) Bottenfield-Biehn, Nick Bottenfield, and Justin (fiancée, Pader Vue) Bottenfield; 15 great-grandchildren; sister, Pat (John) Burns of Ames, IA; brother, Bob (Pat) Moorehead of Pottsboro, TX; three nieces and one nephew. Kay was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, James in 2012; her parents; and her son-in-law, Thomas Miller.Memorial contributions may be given to Iowa City Hospice or West Des Moines United Methodist Church.Special thanks to the staff at the Solon Care Center and Iowa City Hospice for all their loving care and friendship.
