She was born on March 13, 1937 in Middletown, New York.She is survived by her loving husband, Orlen Schmidt; sons, Matthew Tibbitts and Brian Henckel; grandchildren, Mitchell, Thomas, Nate, Mollie, and Madelyn; and 6 great-grandchildren.Kay is preceded in death by her father, Edward; step-father, Bill; mother, Beatrix; sister, Sherri; and close cousin, Blanche.Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at Hamilton's Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral service will begin at 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 26th, at Hamilton's followed by burial at 2 p.m., at Oak Hill Cemetery in Williamsburg, Iowa.
