Kayla Alexis Martinez, 14, a lifetime resident of Las Vegas, received her angel wings on April 6, 2013. She is preceded in death by her great-great-grandmothers, Senorina (Chene) Martinez, Francisca Padilla, Julianita Padilla, and Angelina Madrid, as well as an uncle, Benito Padilla.Kayla was born on Sept. 19, 1998, to Alex and Justina Romero. She was a loving big sister to brother Cortez Romero and sister Kiana Romero. Her maternal grandparents are: Caesar and Susan Jacquez of Las Vegas and paternal grandparents: Alex and Esther Romero of Gallinas. She had one uncle: Vince (Crystal) Romero of Denver, Colo. and two aunts: Ashley Romero of Gallinas and Krista Jacquez of Las Vegas. Her maternal great-grandparents are: Ted and Mary Martinez of Las Vegas and paternal great-grandparents are: Robert and Petra Padilla of Gallinas and Lenora Garcia of Las Vegas. She also had numerous great uncles, aunts, cousins, family, and friends who loved her dearly. She is also survived by two special family friends, her Godmother, Cristina Deel, whom Kayla called "Nana" of Pueblo, Colo. and Mark Montoya of Las Vegas.Kayla was a spontaneous girl with a vibrant personality. She lived life to the fullest and enjoyed cheerleading, music, and dancing. Her favorite band was One Direction and constantly had their CD on repeat. She loved hanging out and was always with her two aunts, Ashley and Krista, who were close in age, as well as her best friend Alexandra De La O. She also had a special relationship with her grandma Susan, whom Kayla called "mommy." Kayla had a big impact on those lives she touched and she will be dearly missed by all who loved her. She was an eighth-grader at West Las Vegas Middle School.A visitation will be held this Wednesday afternoon in St. Francis Chapel at Gonzales Funerals & Cremations, 2315 Hot Springs Blvd. Services will be held from Our Lady of Sorrows Church beginning with a rosary this evening at 7 p.m. on Wednesday. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Sorrows. Father C. John Brasher will celebrate the Mass. The interment will follow in the San Jose Cemetery in Upper Rociada with the following serving as casket bearers: Michael Romero, David Gonzales, Jorge Ruelas, Mario Martinez, De Lean Rodriguez, and Dominic Martinez.
