Keith Keating, beloved son, brother, husband, step-father and grandfather, passed away on August 24, 2024, in Temecula, California, at the age of 66.
Keith was born on October 31,1957, he was preceded in death by his mother, Sheila Keating and his brother, Gary Keating. He is survived by his father, Francis Keating, brothers Stephen and Paul Keating, sister Denise Keating and a host of family, friends and co-workers.
Keith is survived by his loving spouse, Gwen LaForey-Keating, whom he married in 2003. He has a wonderful stepdaughter Kimberly who is married to David, and two grandchildren Kaylse and Rylan.
When Keith and I met, it was In December 1993, at Acapulco‘s restaurant. I was there with my best friend. We were singing karaoke and drinking strawberry margaritas. We always went on Fridays, but on this particular Friday, we meant Keith. I never knew he was going to be the love of my life and my soulmate. Nevertheless, he came over to where we were sitting and asked if we wanted to join him. He was sitting with his friends. We snickered and declined his invitation. When he walked away to rejoin his friends, we both giggled and said, did you hear that English accent.
My best friend and I continued to sip our drinks, while waiting for this group called the Darryl Brothers, to come out and preform. They played Blowup Instruments. A little while after that, a waitress came over with two humongous strawberry margaritas and we said, oh we did not order these. She then said, the gentleman at the table over there sent them. I replied to my friend. “Oh great, now we will have to go thank him. I said, we can thank him on the way out, seeming we have to pass him when we leave. So as we were leaving, we passed by and thanked him for the drinks. He and his friend gave me their telephone numbers. However, I only gave Keith my number. My friend asked me was I going to call him? I replied he has until next Friday to call me! If he doesn’t call me, I will toss his number. However, he called that Friday and invited me over as he wanted to cook dinner for me. I accepted and I rode my bike over to his place because it was not far.
After seeing him for about a week, he informed me of his plans to move to Vista California, with some roommates. Well, I said, I don’t do long-distance dating. I didn’t have a car, so for me riding from Escondido to Vista California was too far. At the time, I was renting a two bedroom townhouse. I took a chance and said, if you like, you can move in with me. I said, if things don’t work out, you can move into the second bedroom until you can get out. Nevertheless, he never made it to that room. I have no regrets!! We lived life spontaneously, as we built our future together. Keith was kind, giving and caring. If he could help anyone, he would. We were together for 30 years and married for 20 years of them. I wouldn’t trade my life with him for the world. We had the greatest life together I could have ever asked for. Sleep in peace my love until we meet again.
Keith will be remembered for his quick wit, infectious laughter, and warm heart. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Rest in peace, Keith Keating. May your spirit continue to bring joy and laughter wherever it may roam.
