KENNETH ALVIN DOHERTY, 84, of Geneva, Ind., passed away at 1:23 p.m. Monday, Dec. 12, 2016, at Adams Memorial Hospital, Decatur, Ind. He was born on Monday, July 4, 1932, in Decatur. He married M. Marcella Hough Doherty on Saturday, Jan. 3, 1953, in Richmond, Ind. Kenneth was a 1950 graduate of Geneva High School. He formerly attended the High Street United Methodist Church, Geneva. He helped with the food bank in Geneva. He retired from International Harvester in Fort Wayne, in 1983. He also worked at Chalet Village, Berne, Ind., as a maintenance supervisor. He was a 56 year member of the Geneva Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the Indiana Volunteer Fireman's Association. He was a lifetime member and past president of Tri- State Gas & Engine Club and a lifetime member of the Geneva
V.F.W. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the
Korean War. Loving survivors include his wife, Marcella (Hough) Doherty of Geneva; daughters, Penny (Mike) Hirschy of Decatur and Lois (Phil) DeBolt of Roanoke; grandsons, Nathan (Kelsi) Hirschy of Fortville, Ind. and Matthew (Taren) DeBolt of Chicago, Ill.; granddaughters, Melissa (Kevin) Dickman of Convoy, Ohio and Michelle (William) Bostain of Fort Wayne; great-granddaughters, Macie Dickman, Myla Dickman and Maren Dickman, all of Convoy, Ohio, Madeline Hirschy of Fortville, Ind., and Elena Bostain of Fort Wayne; and great-grandson, McCormick Hirschy of Fortville, Ind. He was preceded in death by his father, Otto Nathan Doherty; mother, Florence B. (Haney) Doherty; brothers, Carl Cochran, William Doherty and Robert Doherty; and sister, Betty Jones. A service to celebrate Kenneth's life is 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, 2016, at High Street United Methodist Church, 435 High St. Geneva, Ind., with visitation one hou prior. Michelle Isch officiating. Family and friends may also gather to share and remember from 1 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 16, 2016, at the church. Interment will follow service in the Backesto Cemetery, Berne, Ind.
