Kenneth C. LewisAbilene, TXKenneth Crompton Lewis, 93, joined his Savior Wednesday, March 29, 2017. A memorial service will be held at 10:00AM, Friday, April 7, 2017 at Texas Veterans' Cemetery-Abilene.Ken was born on November 12, 1923, to Charles and Edith Lewis in Providence, Rhode Island. After graduating from the University of Connecticut, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving as an infantryman in General Patton's 3rd Army and taking part in the pivotal Battle of the Bulge. He received the Bronze Star. Ken married his wartime sweetheart, Linda Williams in 1946, and they were blessed with 68 years of marriage. Ken's career in agriculture was a 47 year-long journey with Indian River International, a poultry breeding company that took him to Delaware, Pennsylvania and finally to Texas. He held a variety of positions with Indian River, working and lecturing throughout the U.S., and in more than 50 countries. He concluded his career in agriculture as a senior management consultant. Ken lived a fascinating life and spent much of his working years in international travel. He will be remembered for his genuine love of people and other cultures, and the way he prayed for people of other faiths to come to know Jesus. Ken and Linda retired to Abilene in 1997 to be near grandchildren, attending little league games, music recitals and many other activities. They were members of Highland Church of Christ. The Lewis family has lost an incredible spiritual leader, family patriarch and God loving man while heaven is welcoming a truly faithful servant.Preceding Ken in death are his wife, Linda; his parents; his sister, Virginia Conlan and brother, Donald Lewis. Survivors include sons and their wives: Brian and Gail Lewis of Delaware; Garrett and Melissa Lewis of North Carolina; Keith and Pat Lewis of Virginia; Mark and Gina Lewis of Abilene; 8 grandchildren: Sarah Lynn Grubb; Stephanie Gray; Nathan Lewis; Chris Lewis; Andi Lewis; Matthew Lewis; Casey Orr and husband, Mason of Ft. Worth and Patrick Lewis and wife, Elyse of Abilene; 12 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; several cherished nieces and nephews in Connecticut; and many friends at University Place.Ken's family would like to thank the staff at University Place, Kathy and other aids from Kindred Care, Hendrick Hospice Care, staff at Northern Oaks, Beth Reeves, Dr. Will Shudde and Nurse Ruby.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to FaithWorks of Abilene, Global Samaritan Resources in Abilene or the .
