Kenneth E. Henry, 93, of Greenville, formerly of Vandalia, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2016, at home, surrounded by his family.A Masonic service will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Young Funeral Home in Greenville. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. until time of the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery at a later date. Online condolences can be expressed at www.youngfh.net.Mr. Henry was born on July 27, 1923, in Vandalia, the son of Archie Stilts and Lottie Ertle (Diveley) Henry. He married Esther Violet Abernathy of Carlyle on Sept. 4, 1948, in Hernando, Miss.Ken grew up in Vandalia and graduated from Vandalia High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from Feb. 20, 1942,-Oct. 26, 1945, and in 2009, he was privileged to participate in the Veterans' Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. After the service, he went to work for Western Electric, retiring from Illinois Bell (AT&T) in 1986. He lived in Carlyle for a while, then moved to Cairo, Ill.; he moved to Greenville in 1968. He was a member and past master of the Cairo Masonic Lodge and Greenville Lodge No. 245 A.F.&A.M.; a member of Pocahontas Gordon Lodge No. 473; belonged to Scottish Rite Bodies and Ainad Temple; and was a charter member of the Bond County Shrine Club. He was a member of the IBEW, and was a past member of the Bond County Fair Board. He attended Greenville First Christian Church.He is survived by his wife; children, Pamela and her husband Sud Safriet of O'Fallon, Michael Henry and his wife Melisa of Woburn, and Jan and her husband Don Dalenberg of Pocahontas; six grandchildren; one stepgrandchild; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-stepgrandchildren.He was preceded in death by a sister, Norma Jean Runkel.
