Kenneth E. Lowe, Sr.Naples, FLKenneth E. Lowe, SR., 85, died peacefully in his sleep with family at his side on January 8, 2017. Ken was born on April 1, 1931 in Cos Cob, Connecticut to John B. Sr. and Mary (Golden) Lowe. Beloved husband of 53 years to Marlene (nee Redmond); very dearest father of Kenneth E. Lowe Jr. (Annette), Janet L. Mazzola (David) and David B. Lowe (Stephanie); loving grandfather of Louisa, Grace and Molly Lowe, Emily, Peter "Mac" and Alison Mazzola, and Hailey and Griffin Lowe; dear brother of the late John B. He went on to earn a BA in Economics at Villanova University and an MBA at Columbia Business School. After business school, Ken enlisted in the US
Army in 1956 and was eventually sent to Korea. While there, the USA was asked to field an Olympic baseball team to play an Australian all-star team as an exhibition-demonstration sport in the 1956 Summer Olympic Games. The US State Department fielded a team from the armed service men that were deployed in the Far East. Ken was one of 18 players that were selected from a strong field of 40 baseball players that competed for the final team. While Ken was drafted to play professional baseball by the Boston Braves, he felt he would be more suited to put his MBA to work. After returning from the Army, he was hired by Stauffer Chemical and was placed in their training program. Upon completion he was transferred to Akron, Ohio to sell and promote their rubber and industrial chemicals.Ken met Marlene Redmond in early 1963 and their whirlwind romance resulted in their engagement in July 1963. They were wed in October of 1963 and recently celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary. After three babies in three years, Ken's entrepreneurial spirit coupled with Marlene's encouragement allowed them to start Lowe Chemical in 1968. While Ken remained CEO, the company is now a second generation business, 48 years old, owned and operated by the three children.Ken was active in sports his entire life. He played hockey into his fifties while also playing golf and tennis up until a year ago. He loved coaching his children's baseball and hockey teams while they were growing up and was the consummate sports fan, following his children and grandchildren all over Ohio to cheer for all of their sporting activities.Ken loved people and people loved him. He was the most cherished husband, father and grandfather. He was a parishioner at St Joan of Arc in Chagrin Falls, Ohio and a former parishioner at both St Dominic's and Church of the Resurrection. Ken was a member of the Kirtland Country Club and a former member of both the Cleveland Skating Club and the Cleveland Racquet Club. While he and Marlene have wintered in Naples, Florida for over 30 years, he was a parishioner at St. Williams Church, and was a member of the Club at Pelican Bay and the Forum Club in Naples.
