During the early morning of Sunday, June 28, 2020, Kenneth Joe Young quietly transitioned from his earthly home to eternal rest at home in St Louis, MO. Born March 27, 1943, he was the son of the late Rosa Holloway Young and David Young.
Kenneth grew up in the city of Little Rock, Arkansas, and was a proud 1965 graduate of Little Rock High School. He continued his studies at Norfolk State College (now University). He accepted Christ at an early age and throughout his childhood as well as into early adulthood, he was a member of First Alton Baptist Church. Later after marrying, he joined St. Thomas A.M.E. Zion Church located in St Louis, Missouri where he served in several church ministries. During his last years in Missouri, he became a member of 3rd Baptist Church, in St Louis, Mo
He retired after thirty-one years of employment with St Louis Metro. He was well known by many for his dedication and commitment to causes which impacted his community. He was part of many negotiation sessions to advocate for fairness and job security.
Kenneth was known for his giving spirit, his engaging dimpled smile, his wit, and his love of music, especially gospel and R&B. Often in his later days, he would be comforted through songs even singing along with the music. His other love was children. One of Kenneth’s joys was the time he had to be with his grandsons and children of his family. Affectionately called PaPa by his grandchildren, he got countless hours of pleasure whether he was talking with them, playing with them, attending events, watching movies, or any of the many things that he had the opportunity to partake with his family.
Kenny is survived by his oldest son David M Young of Atlanta, GA; son Keith Young of Norfork, VA; son Micca Earl Young of St Louis, Mo; son Terance Lee Young of St Louis, Mo; daughter, Layla Young of St Louis, Mo; daughter, Deajsha Smith of Baltimore, MD; daughter, Nicole Davis of Atlanta, GA; their mother, Sharon Holloway of Alton; son-in-law, Tariq Davis of Atlanta, GA; daughter, Jazz Thomas of Virginia Beach; grandsons, Brayden Davis, Bryce Davis, Ayden Smith, Braxton Thomas of Virginia Beach; and Micah Thomas of Virginia Beach; nephew, Deon German (Crystal) of Suffolk, VA; his special niece and nephew, Diona German of Norfolk, VA and Justin German of Virginia Beach; several cousins, godchildren, other relatives, friends, and schoolmates.
Kenny will be greatly missed by all who knew him and he will forever be in our hearts.
