Kenneth E. "Ken" KrebsGlen RockKenneth E. "Ken" Krebs, 74, died Friday July 8, 2016 at Hospice and Community Care, Mt. Joy following a brief illness. He was the husband of Barbara A. (Bortner) Krebs, with whom he celebrated a 55th Wedding Anniversary this past August 27th.Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday July 13, 2016 at Zion Lutheran Church, 49 Hanover St., Glen Rock, with the Rev. Edward Robbins, officiating. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery.Viewings will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Geiple Funeral Home, Inc., 53 Main St., Glen Rock, and from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Wednesday at the church.Kenny was born on October 6, 1941 in Codorus Township and was a son of the late William G. and Nova I. (Meckley) Krebs. He graduated in 1959 from Susquehannock High School and attended York Junior College, following which took electronic classes through RCA.Ken started his career in TV and Electronics repair with the former Jesse F. Garver's Appliance and TV in Glen Rock and Spring Grove. He then owned the former Ken's TV and Electronics in Glen Rock for many years until his retirement. Following his retirement he worked for Heidlebaugh's Appliance in York in Parts and Sales, drove a bus for Normandie Ridge Senior Living and drove a delivery truck for York Imperial Plastics.He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Glen Rock, where he served on the Property Committee, served on the church council, taught Sunday School and played Santa Claus for many years. Active in the Glen Rock Community, Ken served on the Arthur Hufnagel Library Board, the Glen Rock Recreation Board, the Glen Rock Borough Council, the Glen Rock Beautification Committee, Co-Chairman of the former Glen Rock Street Fair Committee, and for over thirty years helped to install and maintain the borough's Christmas decorations and annual tree light ceremony. He volunteered his time at the local community park where he oversaw construction of a new horseshoe pit, as well as doing painting, repairs and landscaping.This past Memorial Day, he received the Austin L. Grove American Legion post #403 Good Citizen for 2016 award and in 2001 he was awarded the Glen Rock Jaycees Distinguished Citizen Award. On July 2, 2016 the Glen Rock Recreation Board and Borough Council dedicated the Picnic Pavilion at the Park in his honor and the Arthur Hufnagel Library established a Scholarship in his name. Besides his wife, he leaves two daughters, Matie S. Krebs of Safety Harbor, FL. and Kelly E. Hermansen (Kai) of York Springs; a son, K. Eugene Krebs (Donna) of Glen Rock; four grandchildren, Jeffrey and Barry Davis, Amanda Hermansen and Jessica Murphy; a sister Twila Paul (Bill) of Gibsonia, PA; sister-in-law, Tersie Krebs of Glen Rock; and his beloved beagle Dexter.
