Visitation will be 5:00PM to 7:00PM, Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South. Funeral service will be 10:00AM, Thursday, June 29, 2017 at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 1741 Sayles Blvd. Interment will follow the service at Elmwood Memorial Park.Kenny was born on December 13, 1938 in Abilene, TX to parents, Neil and Ilene Payne Schmidt. He attended Abilene High School where he excelled in sports. He was all District and all State in baseball while the team won two state championships and was runner-up one year. He played Varsity football for three years and was part of the "winning streak" that won two state championships. He enjoyed his time at Abilene High School and was a proud member of the "Team of the Century". After high school, he attended Sul Ross University on a baseball scholarship and was part of the team that went to the 1958 NAIA World Series. After college, he faithfully served our country in the United States Marine Corp before beginning his career with Sherwin Williams Company as a Credit Manager in the San Antonio and Abilene markets. He enjoyed being involved in the community. He a very active member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church and throughout the years he served in several civic organizations and was always involved in coaching little league baseball and pop warner football. He was an avid golfer, fisherman and a lifelong loyal fan of the Abilene High Eagles. Kenny is survived by his wife, Rosalee Jones Schmidt; three sons, Joe, Daniel, Matt and his wife Dana; step-daughter, Jamie Green; five grandchildren, Chance, Jerrod, Kristina and husband Brad, Cody Varner, and Corbin Varner; two sisters, Janice Savage and Joyce Johnson; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
