Kenneth M. SpicerParkton, MDKenneth Milton Spicer, 88, passed away at his home on November 10, 2015. He was the husband of his high school sweetheart, the late Geraldine "Gerry" Mildred (Reidt) Spicer, to whom he was married for 60 years.A resident of Parkton, Md. his entire life, he was born on March 17, 1927, the youngest son of the late Clarence M. Spicer and Rosa B. (Talbott) Spicer. He was preceded in death by his older brothers, Wilbur Spicer and Russell Spicer.A 1944 graduate of the former Sparks High School in Sparks, Md., Kenneth served in Germany as a quartermaster supply technician in the 59th Medical Detachment of the U.S.
Army during the WW II Post-War Occupation, where he earned his rank of staff sergeant.As an automobile mechanic, Mr. Spicer was an employee of the former Foster's Garage in Hereford and Marsden Chevrolet before working as a line controller at Noxell Corporation from where he retired in 1989 after 19 years of service.Kenneth was a faithful, devoted, and longtime member of Wiseburg United Methodist Church as well as Wiseburg Cemetery Trustees, where he served over 40 years as President. He was also a 60-year lifetime member of the Parkton American Legion Post #256 where he had served as both post commander and adjutant. One of his greatest honors was placing American flags, provided by the Parkton Post #256 for Memorial Day, on the graves of veterans at Wiseburg Cemetery which he did for over 50 years.A very talented and skilled individual, Mr. Spicer enjoyed woodworking, traveling on Lincoln Bus Line Tours with his wife, collecting and working on Wheel Horse lawn tractors as well as vegetable and flower gardening. He will especially be remembered by his neighbors and friends for his sharing of the fresh produce from his garden each year.Ken will greatly be missed by his two daughters, Rosa Marie Baer and her husband, Glen, and Peggy Lynn Hess and her husband, Thomas, as well as his four beloved grandchildren, Laura Benesch, Aaron Baer, Ryan Baer, and Steven Benesch and his wife, Kathryn (McElwain) Benesch and his two step grandchildren, Tina and Kris Hess.A viewing will be held at J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary, Inc., 24 N. Second St., New Freedom, PA from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, November 15, 2015 and from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at Wiseburg United Methodist Church, 810 Wiseburg Road, White Hall, Md. A service to remember Kenneth will be conducted by his pastor, Pastor Ronald C. Gompf, at 11 a.m. Monday, November 16, 2015 at the church.
