Kenneth W. WoodsHaslettKenneth William Woods passed peacefully among family on Wednesday, January 25, 2017. He was born on October 12, 1947 to William and Cecilia Woods in Bay City, MI where he lived with his two sisters, Carole and Sally, and graduated from Bay City Central in 1965. He attended
Michigan State University where he met his wife, Bonnye. They were united in marriage on March 22, 1969 in Northville, MI and Ken started at the police academy the following month. Kenneth joined the City of Lansing Police Department in the fall of 1969 where he worked until retirement in 1994. He was a dedicated patrol officer who cared about the people in his district and city and he loved being around and interacting with the people of Lansing which is why he remained a patrolman until retirement.Ken had two children: William (Angela) and Janis, and three grandchildren, Katelyn, Kyla and Christopher. He also had one niece, Michelle M. Thompson and five nephews, Brian Merritt, Shawn Sudquist, Steven Edford, David Edford, and Eric Edford.Ken loved to golf, enjoyed his time at the casino, loved MSU women's basketball, made it a priority to have breakfast throughout the week with fellow officers and friends, and always made it home to greet his granddaughter after school. Ken was not only a fun and nurturing grandfather to his three grandchildren, but to the children in his neighborhood, his granddaughter's friends, and his special Culver's wait staff. Ken always had a smile on his face and his humor was infectious as he was always quick with a joke or a one-liner during a conversation.Kenneth is preceded in death by his father, William D. Woods, his mother, Cecelia Woods (Malinowski) and his sister, Sally J. Merritt, who passed five days earlier.He is survived by his wife Bonnye Woods of Haslet, MI; his sister, Carole Sundquist of Essexville, MI; children William and Janis and his three grandchildren.A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:30 p.m., Sunday, January 29, Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 1730 East Grand River Avenue, East Lansing with Pat Brook officiating.
