RACINE - Kermit C. Hansen, 92, passed away comfortably knowing that he was very loved on Tuesday, September 13, 2011, at Hospice House in Pleasant Prairie. Kermit was a lifelong resident of Racine, born on March 19, 1919, son of the late H. Emil and Emma (nee: Nelson) Hansen. On October 18, 1941, Kermit was united in marriage to Louise Vermeire. After graduation from William Horlick High School, he went into business with his father. Later, he owned and operated the NuWay Dry Cleaning establishment on State Street, until he was elected Town Clerk for Mount Pleasant, a position Kermit held for 26 years, until his retirement in 1981. He had been an Assistant Scout Leader for the Boy Scouts for a time. Kermit loved the outdoors, pheasant hunting, duck hunting, and fishing. He had a great love for all animals, but dogs were his favorite. He and Louise raised many dogs. Kermit is survived by nieces and nephews, Sue Henderson, Marian Verhaeghe, and Timothy Verhaeghe; and sister-in- law, Grace Verhaeghe. He is further survived by very good friend, George A. Vanhaverbeke; his dear friend and caregiver of 11 years, Kim Stier; other relatives and friends. Kermit was preceded in death by his wife, Louise on February 4, 2002; two brothers; and two sisters. Memorial services for Kermit will be held at Sturino Funeral Home on Friday, September 16, 2011, at 6 p.m. with Pastor Jim Cieszynski officiating. He will be laid to rest next to his wife, Louise, at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery on Highway 32 in a private ceremony. There will be a visitation at the funeral home on Friday from 5 p.m. until time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials to one's favorite charity have been suggested.
