Kerry Hall Cook was born to Felix Cook Jr and Priscilla Taylor Cook on May 26, 1956. On February 23,2022 at 2 AM, God called him home after a long battle of cancer.
Kerry grew up in Lincoln Park, attending St. Tammany Jr. High and Salmen High School. As a young man, Kerry decided to join the United States Army and this is where his love of mechanics manifested. He became an aircraft mechanic, working on helicopters and served in the military for six years. Once his active duty was completed he came back to Slidell and enrolled in Delgado Community College where he received his degree in Welding. He was an excellent student in and out of school, continuing to perfect his craft by practicing persistent study of auto mechanics and becoming an ASE certified mechanic. He went on to work at Michoud Assembly Facility and the Lakefront Airport as a master mechanic.
In 1994, Kerry wanted to open a mechanic shop and his girl (Mama) supported this venture by helping him open up Cook’s Automotive. He took his nephew Felix Cook IV under his wing and taught him everything he could about vehicles, mechanics and life as he knew it. He loved teaching others… hence his favorite saying “KCB Ain’t Nobody Bad Like Me!! “. There wasn’t much he couldn’t fix and if he couldn’t fix it…he just told you to go buy another car.
Kerry had a such a big heart and was often called upon to assist family, friends and strangers in and around Slidell for mechanical issues as well as taking care of his mom in her last years; he was a mama’s boy and the best brother, uncle, cousin and friend you could ask for.
His relationship with his family was like no other… he always defended them whether they were in the right or not. And when it came to his nieces and nephews, he treated them as if they were his own. Kerry lived his life enjoying every moment and passed this on to his family through giving of himself and exhibiting loving relationships with those he came into contact with. He knew how to live a life filled with love and will forever live in our hearts and memories. He left something with each of us and it’s up to us to continue his legacy by paying it forward by loving each other and being there when needed.
Kerry is preceded in death by both parents Felix Cook Jr. and Priscilla Taylor Cook and one brother Andre W. Cook. He leaves to mourn three sisters Kathleen C. Mitchell of Slidell, Darlene C. Duren (Freddie) of Va. and Margaret P. Cook of Texas. Five brothers: Isiah J. Hart (Mary) and Keith C. Cook of Slidell, Felix Cook III and Jerry W. Cook of Texas and Gary L. Cook of Va. as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
