Kevin Barry Rogers, age 61, of Amsterdam, passed away on February 1, 2017 at Albany Medical Center, Albany after an illness. At the time of his passing, he was in the presence of his family. He was born on April 23, 1955 in Amsterdam, son of the late Joseph Richard and Veronica (McGhee) Rogers and educated in St. Mary's Institute then Bishop Scully. He furthered his education attending Cobleskill College and then attended Fulton County Community College then to Plattsburgh State University where he received a bachelors degree in science. Kevin went on to join the Peace Corps. training in Norman, Oklahoma. In the Peace Corps he taught the local people to farm tilapia fish and went on to have a lifelong love for tilapia. Kevin was an avid fisherman and loved anything to do with the outdoors including hunting, particularly goose hunting. Survivors include his family, one brother, Mark W. Rogers and wife CathyJo of Broadalbin; many cousins including Yvonne Merendo and family and Michael Gomula and family. The family will receive relatives and friends at Betz, Rossi and Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam on Sunday, Feb. 5, 2017 from 12 to 2 p.m. Kevin's funeral will commence at 9 a.m. on Monday, February 6, 2017 from the chapel of the funeral home with Father Jeffrey L'Arche, officiating. Procession will follow to St. Mary's Amsterdam, where he will be laid to rest. Memorial offerings in Kevins name may be sent to Montgomery County SPCA, PO Box 484, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
