Soergel MD, Konrad Konrad H. Soergel passed away on June 29, 2017 surrounded by his wife, children and grandchildren. Loving husband of Rosi (Rudin) whom he married in 1955 after an eight year courtship. Dear father of Elizabeth (Mark) Jacobson, Karyn Soergel, Mary (John) Werfal, Ken Soergel and proud grandfather of Amanda Jacobson and Jennifer and Jack Werfal. He will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by his family and friends. He was born on July 27, 1929 in Coburg, Germany and grew up in Fuerth in Baveria. After graduating from Medical School in Erlangen, Germany, he underwent further training in Paramus NJ, Pittsburgh, Erlangen and Boston. In 1961 he started the Division of Gastroenterology at Marquette School of Medicine (later Medical College of Wisconsin) and led this unit until 1993. After retiring in 2003, he and Rosi traveled between homes in Elm Grove, WI and Palm Desert, CA each year. He enjoyed tennis, classical music and keeping in contact with former colleagues. On any given day you could find him working in the yard, watching a Packers game or simply relaxing and reading. His award of U.S. Citizenship in 1962 was one of his most treasured gifts. Professionally, his goals were to investigate the workings of the intestinal tract and to train first rate gastroenterologists who then practiced and taught throughout the U.S. and the world. The Soergel family owes a deep debt of gratitude to his many friends who came to visit, and to the doctors who provided him with exceptional care. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, July 15 from 10:00 AM until the time of a memorial service at 12:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra or to Specialty Purebred Cat Rescue will be appreciated.
You can to the family or in memory of Konrad Soergel.
