Krystyna (maiden name Bandura), 69, beloved wife of the late Michael; loving mother of Kalliopi (Kevin), Nicole, and Vaggelis; cherished grandmother to Anastasia, Annabella, and Blake; dearly appreciated champion and second mother to countless others.
Krystyna grew up in the mountains of Southwestern Poland, where she enjoyed a meaningful childhood in nature and loving family life with her brother and parents. There, she cultivated a generous spirit toward all living things which she demonstrated in all encounters throughout her life. She was sharp-witted, strong-willed, brilliant, thoughtful, selfless, elegant, practical, and hard-working. She moved to the United States in 1978, traveled, and settled in Chicago, where she met Michael and had her family. She began her career in nursing as a young woman in Poland and would have retired from Lutheran General Hospital (Park Ridge, IL) in October 2019. She was diagnosed with endometrial cancer in October 2018; she ran out of medical options before she ran out of hope and fight. Please join us in remembering her during the following services:
Visitation: 3-8 pm Thursday April 11th (Memorial Service 6-7 pm) at Gibbons Family Funeral Home, 5917 West Irving Park Road, Chicago, IL 60634, 773-777-3944 or www.gffh.com
