Lancin F. "Lanny" Choate, 76, of Manchester CT, beloved husband of Stephanie (Buckley) Choate died on December 12, 2016 following a courageous battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis and Asbestosis. Lanny was born on June 30, 1940 in Augusta, ME to the late Frederick and Muriel (Tregembo) Choate. He served 4 years in the United States Air Force National Guard. He was employed as a Production Supervisor for 27 years at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft before retiring in 1993. In addition to his wife, Lanny is survived by his daughter, Stacey (Choate) Helin, her husband Christopher and granddaughters Stephanie and Christina Helin all of Manchester. He is also survived by his siblings; Thomas Choate and wife Beverly of Houston, TX, Nancy Pelletier of Augusta, ME, LuAnne Choate Kone' of Oklahoma City, OK and Rodney Choate and his wife Laurie of Pittston, ME as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. Lanny was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, and an avid Red Sox and UConn Huskies fan. He was fascinated with weather, enjoyed astronomy, caring for his yard and walking the beaches in Maine and Cape Cod, forever searching for the perfect walking stick. Since discovering a 1912 Official Edition of the book "Sinking of the Titanic" at a young age, now signed by Robert Ballard who discovered the wreck, he amassed quite a collection of Titanic books and memorabilia. But more than anything, Lanny enjoyed spending time watching his granddaughters at their soccer and basketball games. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday (December 20th) at 11:00 a.m. at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home, 219 West Center St., Manchester followed by burial in East Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday, December 19th from 4pm to 7pm.
