Oct 15, 1939 - Nov 23, 2019

This obituary is administered by:

Loving Husband, Father and Grand Father

Larry Elmer Halwas, 80, of Athens, Texas died November 23, 2019 surrounded by his family.  Larry was born October 15, 1939, in West Allis, Wisconsin to Elmer A. and Evelyn (Newcomb) Halwas, and he was the second of four children.

Larry graduated from Milwaukee School of Engineering in 1962 and was the first in his family to graduate from college. He was a well-respected Mechanical Engineer in the mining and oil field industries. Over the course of his career, he helped many of his employers file new patents with innovations that are still used today. Larry was proud of his career, but also found time for many hobbies.  He was a closet carpenter who seemed to over-engineer most of his wood projects. He enjoyed traveling with his wife Suzanne, playing tennis, square dancing, bowling and polka music.

Larry is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Suzanne (Wertz); his children Todd and Savanna Halwas of Canton, Georgia; Kay and Daniel Edwards of Summerfield, North Carolina; Timothy and Ann Halwas of Dallas, Texas and stepdaughter Dorie and John Waldron of Roanoke, Virginia; his grandchildren, Dorothy and Erich Halwas; Hayley, Maddie and Jonathan Edwards; Max and Jillian Halwas; Ashley Simmons, Brittany and Leighanne Waldron; and great grandchildren, Caleb Simmons, James and Cassandra Parcell; his sisters Sue Anderson, Darlene Morici and brother Chuck Halwas and their families.

A memorial service will be at 1 pm on Wednesday, December 11, 2019 at Harbor Baptist Church 604 Hwy. 198 S, Payne Springs, Texas. The burial for the family will follow at Lone Oak Cemetery in Kemp, Texas. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity.
