Larry "Giz" Eugene Thompson, 72, passed away on Friday, September 8, 2017 at Community Hospital in Anderson.He was born on June 7, 1945 in Muncie, the son of George and Rosemary (Writtenhouse) Thompson.Larry graduated from Muncie Central High School. He worked as a machinist at General Motors for more than thirty years. Larry was also a police officer at the Muncie Police Department in the 1980's. He was a member of the United Automobile Workers and Eagles Lodge.Larry was an avid drag racer for more than forty-five years, he raced at the Muncie Drag Strip since it opened. Larry was known for his Gizmo Products he would make for family and friends.Survivors include his son, Larry "Dink" Thompson (wife, LeighAnn); daughter, Vonda Thompson (husband, Chris); grandchildren, Codey Hendricks, Drake Hendricks, Hunter Thompson, and Hailey Thompson; sister, Lisha Greene; and his dog, Ralph.He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Barbara Thompson, and two brothers, Jim Thompson and Ronnie Thompson.Services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel.
