Larry FoxMerkel, TXLarry Don Fox, 51 of Merkel, passed away on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at a local medical facility. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 27, 2017 at 11:00AM at Holy Family Catholic Church, 5410 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene with burial to follow at the Buffalo Gap Cemetery. A visitation with the family and rosary will be held on Sunday, March 26, 2017 from 2:00PM until 4:00PM, at Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut Street.Larry was born on December 19, 1965 in Presidio, Texas to Jerry and Theresa Fox. He spent most of his life in and around Odessa, Texas, and spent 15 years in Austin before moving to Abilene in 2006. Larry worked as an auto body technician and loved working and racing cars, but he was equally gifted as an artist. He loved to paint and sculpt and was known for his pencil art and had a specific talent for his chainsaw sculptures. He was commissioned to carve a large angel out of a massive pecan tree in Richmond, Texas and has a piece of chainsaw art in the courtyard of Wisteria Place in Abilene. Larry's work has been in the Cockerell Gallery in Abilene and he served as an associate artist with Mike Lanier's Studio 13. Larry was active with Bucking for Heroes and he sculpted the trophy given to the winning bull team.Larry was preceded in death by his grandparents Tomas and Luz Madrid and Jesse Herbert and Rowena Fox. He is survived by his father Jerry Fox; mother, Theresa Silvas and step-father, David Silvas of Abilene; his wife, Stephanie of Merkel; daughter, Aphtan Reynolds of Ardmore, Oklahoma; brother, Steve Fox and wife Chelsea of Dallas; and grandchildren Axton Reynolds and Arya Edwards.Through his art, Larry expressed his love of life and people loved and appreciated that Larry put a bit of himself into his work. In death, Larry shared his love of life with others as he helped extend their lives through organ donation.Condolences can be offered to the family online at www.pbfuneraldirectors.com.
