Larry V. Awtry of Ashby, MA; 81 ASHBY, MA -- Larry V. Awtry of Ashby, MA passed away on December 13, 2016 at the age of 81 years, after a fierce battle with a prolonged illness. Beloved husband of Bobbé Awtry for 60 years. Loving father to Mark Awtry and his wife Kristi of Chicago IL, Scherrie Keating and her husband Shawn of Ashby MA, Tina Sellek and her husband Dave of Lowell AR, Dana Awtry of Sanford ME, Eric Awtry and his wife Kyle of Hingham MA, Cord Awtry and his wife Heather of Boxborough MA, Mason Awtry of Chicago IL, and Luke Awtry of Burlington VT. Adored grandfather to Erin, Derek and Lauren Awtry; Shawn Walker and Heather Webber; NenaBouldin, Brandon Blume and Sami Sellek; Morgan Awtry; Jake, Nicholas, Zachary and Hannah Awtry; Isobel and Logan Awtry; Ruby and Cooper Awtry; and devoted great-grandfather to McKenzie, Trevor, Noah, Chase, and Brielle.He was born on August 7, 1935 in Experiment GA. He was career military, serving 22 years in the Army, including tours Vietnam and post-war Korea. He rose to the rank of Command Sergeant Major and finished his career as a teacher and administrator of the intelligence school at Fort Devens MA. He was a proud member of the American Legion and served on the Community Council for the town of Ashby MA. He was an avid hunter and fisherman; coached Little League baseball in Ashby MA for many years; enjoyed travel, woodworking, singing and dancing; and was a dedicated Red Sox fan. But above all, he deeply loved being with his family. He will be sadly missed and never forgotten. He was predeceased by his parents, Herschel and Pearl, and his brother, Kelley, all of Griffin, GA.AWTRY -- Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral ceremony at the Ashby Congregational Church at 21 New Ipswich Rd. in Ashby MA, at 4:00 pm on Thursday December 15, 2016. The burial service at Sharon Memorial Park will be private. In lieu of flowers, honorary donations can be made in his name to the Disabled American Veterans.
