LaRue Cross, 73Muncie - LaRue Cross, 73, passed away on Wednesday evening, May 3, 2017, at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital. He was born on October 23, 1943, in Muncie, the son of Russel S. and Alberta M. (Gamrod) Cross and graduated from Muncie Central High School in 1961. LaRue worked for Borg Warner for 45 years until his retirement in 2006 and then worked for Miracle Water for a few years, a job he really enjoyed. He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Pythias, Welcome Lodge #37, serving in all the post chairs, including past chancellor. He was active in the Knights of Pythias Indiana State Lodge, serving as Grand Treasurer for 14 years, past Grand Chancellor, Knight of Golden Spur and current Grand Lodge Trustee. LaRue was also active in the National Knights of Pythias serving as Deputy Supreme Chancellor and Past Supreme Representative; DOKK - Dramatic Order of the Knight of Khorasson, serving as past Deputy Imperial; member of UAW Local #287 where he served as chairman of the union negotiating committee, union steward and member of the executive board; served on the advisory board for (Borg Warner) health care PPO to Ball Memorial Hospital and local physicians; executive board member for Prime Trust Credit Union for many years; advisory board member for Pythian Home; and member of the Borg Warner Sympathy Club. He was a baseball coach, boy scouts and webelos leader and at one time, one of the best baseball players in Delaware County. LaRue was first and foremost an avid/fanatical Muncie Bearcat fan. He enjoyed fishing and was also an avid bowler, participating in several leagues through the years. Surviving are one son, Chris Cross of Muncie; two grandchildren, Brandon Christopher Cross of Muncie and Jacob John Cross of Kokomo; his life partner of 25 years, Gloria Jefferson and Sherry Jefferson, both of Muncie; one sister, Marilyn Lewis of Muncie; many nieces, nephews and lifelong friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ireta (Mann) Cross; one daughter, Susan J. "Susie" Cross; one brother, Phillip Cross and one sister, Marjorie Joann Copper. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 9, 2017, at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel with Reverend Dr. Ronald Naylor officiating. Burial will follow services in Elm Ridge Cemetery.
