Laura F. Lurgio Obituary

Jan 10, 1921 - Dec 11, 2016

This obituary is administered by:
Lurgio, Laura F. January 10, 1921 - December 11, 2016Laura F. Lurgio, 95, of Sarasota, FL, formerly of Johnston, RI, passed away Sunday, December 11, 2016. Laura was born on January 10, 1921 in West Warwick, RI, the daughter of the late Joseph and Palma (Nardella) Lautieri. Laura is survived by daughter, Marilynn Cinquegrano and husband Thomas of Sarasota, son Ronald Lurgio and wife Mary Alice of Jamestown, RI, grand-children, Peter and James Lurgio of Massachusetts, Tommy Cinquegrano of California and Lia Cinquegrano of New York City, five great-grandchildren, Colby, Patrick and Michael Lurgio, all of Massachusetts, and Vincent and Julian Cinquegrano, both of California, sisters Judy Hagman and Lucille Vinacco. Laura was preceded in death by her loving husband Vincent of 59 years, sisters, Martha Pezzullo and Mary Antaya and two brothers, Ralph and Louis Lautieri. Laura was a very sweet and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She always wore a smile on her face. For 32 years of her 59 years married, she cared for her beloved husband, Vincent, because he had health problems. They moved to Sarasota from Rhode Island in 1978 and Laura and her husband lovingly helped raise 2 of her grandchildren, Tommy and Lia Cinquegrano. Every summer they would travel to Rhode Island for a few weeks to see their grandchildren, Peter and James Lurgio. Her family was the most important thing in her life, and her time was spent doing whatever she could do to make their lives better. When her children were young, she and her husband worked very hard to send them to Catholic elementary and high schools and college. She was a devout Catholic and a member of Incarnation Church Women's Guild for many years. In her later years, she went to Senior Friendship Center everyday on the SCAT bus. She loved music and dancing. She also enjoyed painting with watercolor. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Friendship Centers, 1888 Brother Geenen Way, Sarasota, FL 34236. A visitation will be held for Laura on Sunday, December 18, 2016 from 4:00 - 7:00 pm with a prayer service to be held at 6:00 pm at the Toale Brothers Funeral Home on 40 North Orange Ave. A Catholic Mass will be held on Monday, December 19, 2016 at Church of the Incarnation, 2901 Bee Ridge Rd. at 9:30 am in Sarasota. Graveside services will be held at 12:30 pm at the Sarasota National Cemetery.
