She loved to scrapbook, paint, refinish furniture, make cards, write poetry and garden. She loved to decorate and her house was always warm and inviting. Laura loved to sing and was always singing silly songs that her grandchildren loved.Laura and her daughter Cindi operated Handcast Treasures for the last six years, making hundreds of hand castings for children and families. Laura loved this work and the families she served.Laura's greatest joy came from her children and her grandchildren. She loved to think of fun things to do with her family and created a lifetime of loving memories for them to cherish. Laura was a great example of service, kindness, selflessness, hard work, courage and love. Laura was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many callings and was currently serving as First Counselor in the Pocatello Stake Primary Presidency. Her favorite calling was leading the music in Primary and teaching the children songs about the Savior. In July 2013, Laura's legs became paralyzed and she was diagnosed with Neuromyelitis Optica (NMO or Devic's disease), an autoimmune disease in which the body attacks the spinal cord and optic nerve. Her spinal cord was severely damaged by the disease and she was left paralyzed from the chest down. Although she was hospitalized for months, Laura never complained and fought her disease bravely. Through it all she never gave up and continued to fight even after she had a stroke. After her courageous battle, Heavenly Father called her home. A special thanks to Laura's daily caregiver, Ellen Ririe, RN, and also to her other caregivers, Kathy Coffin, Carrie Scott, RN, Shanna Thomas and Mallory Nielson Mitton.
