LaVerne Golda PrebbleOxnard, CALaVerne Golda Prebble, 84, passed away Thursday, July 20th, 2017 in Oak View, CA after a brief battle with cancer. She was born on November 7th, 1932 to Harry and Harriet Sheppard in Clifton, KY. As a toddler, her family would move to Cincinnati, Ohio where she would remain until relocating to California. At 17, she would meet the love of her life in a handsome, blue-eyed gentleman named George Prebble. After a whirlwind courtship, the two married in 1951 and would share over 65 happy years until his death on October 20, 2016.LaVerne worked for the Beau Brummell Tie Company and Gruen Watch Company in Cincinnati before starting a family. She would later devote her life to her family and home.In 1959, with 4 small boys in tow, she traveled by train from Cincinnati to Oxnard, CA to be reunited with George who had left months earlier to find work and a home for their growing family. Once established in Oxnard, she would give birth to two more sons and one daughter. LaVerne was a faithful member of the Oxnard Church of the Nazarene, from the early 1960's until a few weeks before her death. Over the years she would serve as a Sunday School teacher, board member, sing in the choir and as custodian. Her church was her second family and she loved them dearly. Following George's retirement, the two would travel across the country visiting with friends and family. Many summers were spent with relatives in Ohio, Florida and Michigan. The adventures they shared while marveling in the beauty of our United States was a highlight of their lives. LaVerne found joy in multiple hobbies; ceramics, sewing, reading, traveling and puzzles with George. What she will be remembered most for by family and friends is her love of cooking and baking. She made the BEST mashed potatoes anyone has ever tasted. Every holiday or family gathering included a huge bowl of her potatoes, no matter what other food was on the menu.LaVerne's greatest joy, however, was her large family. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Although her family is heartbroken and we will miss her greatly, we are rejoicing in the knowledge that she is free from pain and reunited with her beloved George, family members and most of all, Jesus. LaVerne was preceded in death by her husband, George Prebble, parents Harry and Harriet Sheppard, brothers Ray, Larry and Johnny Sheppard, sisters, Ruth Story, Dorothy Castleberry, son, Ray Prebble, daughter-in-law, MaryLou Prebble, grandchildren, Mary and Elizabeth Prebble and Michael Montanez.LaVerne is survived by children Steve Prebble, John (Felecia) Prebble, Gary Prebble, Rick (Leona) Prebble, David Prebble, Susan (Donald) Rodarte, grandchildren, Natalie Prebble, Eddie Traversa, Petra Traversa, Courtney Prebble, Christie Evans, Cathie Prebble, "Young Rick" Prebble, Travis Vestal, Deanna Prebble, Ray Prebble, Alyssa Rowe, Dylan Rodarte, Alexandra Rodarte, 15 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
