Carlson, Lawrence A.Lawrence A. Carlson, age 87, passed away on Monday, July 17, 2017, at Arborview Court Assisted Living in Wisconsin Rapids.Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, July 24, 2017, at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Rapids. Visitation will be from 9:30 A.M. until time of service at church. Pastor Tim Wenger will officiate. Burial will take place at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in the Town of Grand Rapids. www.taylorfuneralhome.net.Larry was born on February 5, 1930, in Wood County to Magnhild Carlson. He married the love of his life, Glorianna Helke on May 12, 1951. She passed away on January 19, 2009. Larry was a faithful member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church and was a member of the Veterans of the Cross where he helped maintain the church and the lawn.Larry served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953. He was a lifelong member of the
V.F.W. Buckley-Baldwin Post 2534 and served as Quartermaster for several years. He was the head of the service department for the Wisconsin Gas Company until his retirement.Larry loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Larry and Glorianna wintered in Gulf Shores, Alabama, and looked forward to taking bus trips with the bus driver they knew on a first name basis as "Jimmy" to Biloxi, Mississippi, where they enjoyed playing slots. He enjoyed camping; especially with the gang at Fish Lake. He also enjoyed tinkering around with things in his garage and was known as a prankster with his friends; you would never know when a bowling ball would show up in your yard or you would hear him sing karaoke.Larry is survived by his children: Sandra (Dale) Lieber, Mesa, AZ, Susan (Phil) Newhauser, Wisconsin Rapids, WI, Scott (Mary Beth) Carlson, Bellbrook, OH, Stacy (Cliff) Molin, Tomahawk, WI; grandchildren: Sara (Steve) Rose, Scott (Lyndi Huegele) Carlson, both of Beavercreek, OH; and great-grandchildren, Lexi and Hailey Rose; sisters-in-law: Charlotte Carlson and Erma Rice; and brother-in-law: Norman Helke. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, mother, and brother, Donald Carlson.The family would like to express their utmost appreciation to Arborview Court Assisted Living of Wisconsin Rapids and Heartland Hospice of Stevens Point for all their kindness and care that they gave Larry and the family.
