Lawrence Britton Coll, 73, of Hobbs, NM, died Monday, March 20, 2017. He was born on May 3, 1943, in Artesia, NM, to Britton and Kathleen Coll. Lawrence married Kathleen Baker on June 5, 1968, in Albuquerque, NM, and they celebrated over 48 years of marriage. After a 25+ year banking career in Albuquerque and Hobbs, Lawrence retired and worked as a financial consultant and most recently as an environmental consultant for Constructor's Inc. in Carlsbad. He was a true handyman and jack-of-all-trades, a bread baker and candy maker. He loved to sing in the church choir, play cards, and read. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club; Habitat for Humanity; past president of the United Way; and an active member of First United Methodist Church. Lawrence is survived by his wife, Kathleen Coll, of Hobbs; children, Katelyn Scott and her husband, Jeff, of Cincinnati, OH, and Jori Sechrist and her husband, Tim, of Abilene, TX; sisters, Janis Shoup of Carlsbad and Sue Pemberton of Artesia; grandchildren, Lauren and Cassidy Scott and Britton and Addelyn Sechrist; an aunt and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and his oldest sister, Jean Williams Boling. Lawrence was kind, gentle, patient, and always helping others. He will be remembered as a supportive husband, loving father and grandfather, and loyal friend. A Service of Remembrance will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, March 24, 2017, at First United Methodist Church in Hobbs with the Reverend Greg Kennedy officiating.
