HURRICANE - Our loving father, grandfather, brother and friend, Lawrence Charles Taylor, 82, passed away on Friday, June 15, 2007, at his home in Hurricane, Utah from an incident due to age. He was born on Nov. 20, 1924, in Laketown, Utah, a son of Joseph Warren and Alley Vernon Johnson Taylor. Lawrence served in the US Army Air Corps during World War II, obtaining the rank of Captain. He served as a pilot in the European Theatre from 1943 to 1946. Lawrence obtained his bachelor's and master's degrees from Utah State Agricultural College. He married Maurine Nielsen on June 2, 1944, in the Logan LDS Temple. She preceded him in death on Feb. 15, 1972. Lawrence then married Gloria Call Spencer on May 26, 1972, in the Ogden LDS Temple. She preceded him in death on Oct. 10, 2005. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served honorably in many callings including, Stake President of the Brigham City Stake from 1962 to 1974. He also served in positions from high counselor to ward clerk. Lawrence was engaged in several business endeavors including management positions at Thiokol Chemical Corporation in Brigham City, Utah. He was an associate professor at Utah State University where he taught marketing and small business management. He also operated several small businesses, including All-Grain Company, Tremonton, Utah and Rifle Land and Cattle, Rifle, Colo. For the last 20 years, he served as an independent business consultant. Lawrence followed the local Utah sport teams. He enjoyed many rounds of golf with his family. He was an avid reader of the scriptures and followed current events. He stressed education and was an excellent teacher. He spent a lot of time enjoying his roses and writing poetry. Surviving are his 11 children, Zara Rae (Leon) Poulsen, Brigham City, Utah; Lawrence C. Taylor, Jr., Sandy, Utah; Randee Spencer (Orson) Cornia, Woodruff, Utah; Kathleen Taylor, Salt Lake City; Scott (Terry) Spencer, Randolph, Utah; Doran D. (Melissa) Taylor, Salt Lake City, Utah; Vickie Spencer (Tom) Weston, Laketown, Utah; Elliott N. (Melissa) Taylor, Salt Lake City, Utah; Charles Robert Spencer, Ogden, Utah; Cordell B. (Lenka) Taylor, Salt Lake City, Utah; Bartley F. (Susan) Taylor, St. George, Utah; daughter-in-law, Ginger Taylor, Sandy, Utah; 39 1/2 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, James W. (Micky)Taylor, Hurricane, Utah; Robert M. (Ladell) Taylor, Henderson, Nev.; one sister, Elaine (Dale) Hatch, Randolph, Utah. He was also preceded in death by one son, Rex Floyd Taylor; one grandson, Rex Kyle Poulsen and one great grandson, Zachary Daniel Packer; five brothers, Jay; Vernon; Elliott; Ellsworth; and Wallace Taylor; and one sister, Jean Taylor. The Taylor children want to thank Lawrence's brother, James and wife Micky; son, Bartley; and daughter-in-law, Susan; the members of Hurricane 11th LDS Ward and the health care professionals at the U of U – Dixie Dialysis Center for all their love and tender care. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 22, 2007, at the Brigham City Stake Center, 650 Anderson Drive, Brigham City, Utah. Family will greet friends on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Gillies Funeral Chapel, 634 East 200 South, Brigham City, Utah and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Friday at the church. Interment will be in the Hyrum City Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by the American Legion and VFW Honor Guards.
