BARTON, Lawrence G. "George" L. George Barton passed away peacefully early in the morning of November 4, 2016, surrounded by his loving family. George was born on June 23, 1932 to Joseph and Frances Barton in Spokane, WA. He is survived by his one true love, N. Darlene (Nilson) Barton, wife of 62 years, their three sons, Dan (Laurette), Darrell, and Tracy, sister Betty Bell, many grandkids, great-grandkids, nieces and nephews.George learned how to bake while serving in the Air Force, continuing his craft as a civilian with Wonder Bread until he retired in 1987. George was a self-taught upholsterer and enjoyed helping his family and friends with their projects. His favorite pastime was going to the casinos, gambling and visiting and laughing with family and many lifelong friends. George greeted everyone with a huge grin and sparkle in his eyes as he loved to tease everyone. George and Darlene owned a cabin on Coeur d'Alene Lake where he enjoyed father/son 'cabin work trips'. This priceless time spent together was as much fun as it was work. He loved horses and horse racing. His passion for horses led him to own race horses and work part-time at Playfair Race Track. He loved the beauty of the horses, thrill of the wager and excitement of the races. George was an avid Duke basketball fan and watched them on TV every chance he got. He was always eager to wager with anyone lucky enough to be present. George was very involved with his two younger sons' race cars and loved to help obtain sponsors for them. He was a proud father who would boast at the racetrack while watching their races.George was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Lorraine Saling, his brothers, Joseph and Eugene (Chubby) and his beloved daughter, Georgia Lynne.A celebration of George's life will be held at a later date.In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in the name of "Lawrence George Barton" to the at "conquercancerfoundation.org" or to the Hospice of Spokane at 121 S. Arthur, PO Box 2215, Spokane, WA 99210-2215.
