Lawrence H. Apel98, of Indianapolis, died Friday, December 30, 2016. He was born on December 1, 1918 in St. Louis, MO to Lawrence and Ella (Vieth) Apel. He transferred to Indianapolis in 1954 with the US Army Finance and Accounting Center located at Fort Benjamin Harrison, retiring in 1978 as a Program Manager in the Military Pay Records Division. He was an Army WWII veteran, having served in the Aleutian Campaign and in the Phillipines. He was a 50 year Mason. He was a Deacon and Elder at Eastminster Presbyterian Church where he was a member for 35 years, and was currently a member of Irvington Presbyterian Church.He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Thelma Boettcher Apel; 2 daughters, Kathryn Anne Apel Jester (Conner) of Indianapolis and Carol Elizabeth Apel (Jim Sams) of Charlotte, NC; 2 granddaughters, Melissa Kathryn Jester and Erin Elizabeth Jester, both of Indianapolis.Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 5, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Flanner and Buchanan- Memorial Park, with visitation 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends are invited to leave online condolences for the family at www.flannerbuchanan.com.
