Kapellen, Lawrence J.Lawrence J. Kapellen, 98, of Plymouth passed away on Tuesday, November 8, 2016 at Harvest Home Senior Living in Howards Grove where he had resided the past 9 years.Lawrence was born on May 20, 1918 in the town of Plymouth, a son of the late Joseph Lawrence J. Kapellen, 98, of Plymouth, passed away on Tuesday, November 8, 2016 at Harvest Home Senior Living in Howards and Mary (Wieser) Kapellen. He attended St. John the Baptist Catholic School and Plymouth High School. He joined the Army with the 82nd Signal Battalion serving in WWII and was stationed at the Panama Canal, Okinawa and in the South Pacific Arena. He was discharged in 1946. On November 10, 1951 he was united in marriage to Arlene Jean Reinecke and she preceded him in death on February 27, 2007. He worked various jobs over the years including Plymouth Laundry and Bill and Bobs Filling Station. In 1949 he went to work for the Sheboygan County Highway Department and after over 30 years of service retired in 1982. Lawrence also ran his family farm on Highway 67 north of Plymouth until retiring from farming in 1976. Lawrence enjoyed his family and working around his home and farm. He was often heard to say about his longevity that "the first one hundred years are the hardest."Lawrence was a lifelong member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, an honorary charter member of
VFW Post 5612 and a member of the Knights of Columbus Plymouth Council 1789.Lawrence is survived by his five children, Sandy Kapellen (Ken Schultz) of Sheboygan, David (Lori) Kapellen of St. Cloud, Mary Kapellen (fiancé Rick Stoelb) of Sheboygan, Judy (David) Castillo of Sheboygan and Deb Kapellen Christel (fiancé Mike Stodghill) of St,. Nazianz; his grandchildren, Joy Kapellen Bartlett (Robert Meyer), Lee (Amanda) Kapellen, Megan Kapellen (Adam Schlosser), Justin (Amanda) Adomavich, Michelle Adomavich (Patrick Trester), Kelsey Adomavich (Evan Brill), Logan Christel and Greyson Christel (Erika Schwalbe); six great grandchildren and his step grandchildren, Joe (Tera) Castillo, Marcus (Jen) Castillo and Michelle Castillo.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2 PM, MONDAY, NOVEMBER 21 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Plymouth with Fr. Dennis Van Beek as celebrant. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery with military rites accorded. Family and friends may gather at the church, 115 Plymouth Street on Monday, November 21 from 12 Noon until the time of Mass at 2 PM.Memorials in Lawrence's name may be directed to St. John the Baptist Parish.Online condolences may be expressed at
